The title of the exhibition "Athens in Tel Aviv" embraces both the "classic" and the "here and now." In fifth century BCE Athens, figurative sculpture was at its peak, and sculptors attempted to lend the human figures they created a naturalistic appearance by studying human anatomy and painting the sculptures with natural colors. The themes that occupy Israeli sculpture today, as reflected in the exhibition, are an attempt to look back at classical sculpture in order to learn from it about the present, the future, family ties, and biblical stories. In addition to the figurative sculptures on exhibit, there are also abstract sculptures and sculptures that resemble ritual figurines that preceded sculpture.
