Virtual Planet: Shaping Holocaust Memory in Virtual Spaces

We invite you to a fascinating evening event that views the Holocaust from a virtual perspective.

Digital technologies are changing and expanding the ways in which stories can be told, including the story of the Holocaust. Today it is possible to conduct a virtual tour of a building that reconstructs Auschwitz and the gas chambers in a precise manner.

In social media, there is a growing interest in preserving the memory of the Holocaust, and, on the other hand, an increasing amount of Holocaust denial.

This event will address representations of the Holocaust in virtual worlds and ask questions about memory and simulations, the limits of representation, the digital sublime, and the use and overuse of the Holocaust in popular culture.

Shalev Moran, game designer and curator, and Prof. Amit Pinchevski, from the Department of Communication and Journalism at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will take part in the event.

During the event, the film Another Planet by director Amir Yatziv will be screened.
